Community Engagement Officer

Help build welcoming, intergenerational communities across the villages of the Draycote and Leam Valley Benefice, where people of all ages can connect, share, and thrive.

We are looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people and helping communities flourish.

​

The Community Engagement Officer will work across all eight parishes of the Draycote and Leam Valley Benefice, supporting and developing community engagement initiatives that help strengthen connections within village life. This includes supporting existing activities such as coffee mornings and social gatherings, while also exploring new opportunities that respond to the needs and interests of local residents.

​

A key part of the role is encouraging intergenerational and family-friendly activities, creating spaces where children, families, and older members of the community can meet, share, and build relationships. The postholder will work with volunteers and church leaders across the benefice to help develop sustainable initiatives that continue to thrive beyond the life of the funded post.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working creatively with people, spotting opportunities, and helping simple ideas grow into meaningful community initiatives.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Building relationships within the villages, listening to residents, local groups, and regular attendees at church activities

  • Supporting and developing community hospitality initiatives such as coffee mornings and other informal gatherings

  • Helping create welcoming opportunities for people of all ages, including children and families, to connect within the community

  • Encouraging activities that naturally bring different generations together

  • Recruiting, supporting, and coordinating volunteers to help run and sustain community initiatives

  • Working with church leaders and volunteers to develop sustainable activities that can continue beyond the life of the funded post

  • Assisting with the planning, setup, and smooth running of community activities, ensuring venues are well-prepared and welcoming

What we are looking for:

  • A committed Christian who supports the mission and values of the Church

  • Someone who enjoys meeting people and building positive relationships in the community

  • Good communication skills and the ability to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds

  • A proactive and creative approach to community engagement and developing new ideas

  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and church teams

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage activities across multiple locations

  • Familiarity with community work, hospitality, volunteer coordination, or church life would be an advantage

This post reports to the Rector and is the postholder will be employed by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Peter’s Grandborough on behalf of the Draycote and Leam Valley Benefice, while working across all eight parishes of the Benefice.

The role involves travel between villages and a flexible approach to location and hours. Access to a car and willingness to travel between villages is essential.

​

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and abilities. This post carries a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for the postholder to be a practising Christian, as the role involves supporting the mission and ministry of the Church.

 

The Benefice is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will be required to undertake safeguarding training and may be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
